The history of Hawaiian workwear. the origin of the aloha shirt. begins when Japanese immigrants crossed the ocean and began living in Hawaii. Working there required durable workwear. not Japanese-style clothing brought from Japan. When Japanese-born Yasuda Kayoji founded Union Supply Company in 1922. he expanded the business by successfully providing high-quality workwear. The company's shirts and blouses made of this 10-ounce Paraca check fabric were simple to make. yet durable and easy to move in. and quickly gained popularity and became a representative form of Paraca.
