In 1996. we discovered that the legendary textile designer John “Keoniâ€?Meigs. who had had a great contribution behind the development of the Hawaiian shirt history. was well alive. By meeting him in person. we could also encounter many of his unpublished designs from the 1940's. These. along with his newly created designs. had been put into production under the name of “Keoni of Hawaiiâ€?for several years until his advanced age deterred him from creating more. In 2001. this series was succeeded by other artists who sympathize with John's motto: Have the Hawaiian shirts be the bridge between Hawaii and Japan. Today. his great ambition toward the Hawaiian shirts still continues to be passed down through one and only shirt designs created by the artists all around the world.
